- Working on Pioneering Merit Badge Requirements
- Knots
Our main goal is to teach you how to tie knots and lashings with hands-on experience. We will provide a pioneering starter kit on a FCFS basis (we have 50).
We plan to be at the church at 6:20 to handout kits and work with the boys fusing rope which is an outdoor activity. It would be great if you could plan to arrive a little earlier than normal to complete the fusing activity.
The list of requirements we plan to cover during the October 5th session are as follows:
- 1A: hazards you might encounter while participating in pioneering activities.
- Parts of 2B: Clove Hitch (Depending on progress we will add more knots from section 2B)
- Parts of 2C: Square lashing, and Diagonal lashing and derived requirement of Timber hitch.
- 2A: fusing rope at minimum, and potentially whipping methods time permitting.
- There will be a slide deck that will provide clear answers to the theory parts of this merit badge, and will likely email the sections out after we’ve covered the material in the meetings. Hands-On knowledge is super important to us.
