Greetings to all the members of the Troop 787 family
This is a somewhat strange era that we find ourselves in right now. Many norms—aren’t; and there are new concerns unfolding each day. Parents and boys alike are challenged with school closings, work closings, and travel restrictions. Stress levels may be rising. Some folks have gone from worry to fear.
So I asked the question: Does God’s Word (the Bible) address this situation? Actually, it does:
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
This same Jesus—who came and lived without fault, who paid the price for your sins—did NOT abandon you on the cross—and He won’t leave you now.
How can you say that Chaplain? Because He promised it in His Word: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28:20b)
Jesus never breaks a promise. In fact, there are FOUR things that He can’t do: He can’t sin. He can’t lie. He can’t break His promises. And, no, He CANNOT create a rock so big that even He can’t lift it. (It violates the omnipotence principle.)
Still not convinced? Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, wrote this: 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Phil 4:6). No matter how many times I’ve tried to memorize this verse—it escapes me. Too many vocabu—err,–big words!
Let’s see if this makes more sense:
“Worry about NOTHING—
Pray about EVERYTHING!”
Write that on a POST-IT note and stick it on your refrigerator—or make-up mirror!
Chaplain—do you really believe that praying will solve this mess? You bet I do!
14 If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
With love for all, I remain–
Carl Hancik
