Join us for a weekend of Canoeing, Beach Games, and Movie making as we tackle Movie Making Merit Badge in beautiful Ft. DeSoto Park.

We will meet at Black Hammock Friday afternoon for the 2.5 hour trek to southern Pinellas County. We will tent camp Friday and Saturday nights, returning to black hammock by approximately 1:00pm Sunday.

While at Ft DeSoto, we will be camping in the primitive tent area across the street from the entrance to the boat ramp. There are picnic tables, potable water and restroom and shower facilities. No pavilion.

Activities:

During the day on Saturday we will begin the day developing storyboards and reviewing basic movie making skills. You will teach an FYE a new skill and video your teachings using the EDGE method. Afterwards we will canoe to Shell Island for a day on the beach. Others may choose to hike, fish, or tour all Ft Desoto Park has to offer.

Each patrol is responsible for loading their own Patrol gear and ensuring their meal plans and duty rosters and ready for this weekend. Remember to plan for Saturday Breakfast, A BROWN BAG(ZIP LOCK) LUNCH, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast.

Notes:

This is the ONE and only camping trip where cell phones are encouraged!!

Bring your bathing suits and fishing poles as we will play beach games, fish and engage in general beach activities.The island sand/shell can be rough on your feet. BEACH WATER SHOES AND BUG SPRAY ARE A MUST.

In addition to your regular camping items, remember to pack the following:

  • SUNSCREEN
  • BEACH SHOES, CROCKS, SANDALS
  • SWIM SUIT
  • BEACH TOWEL
  • CELL PHONE (or video recording device) charger and dry bag.
  • BEACH TOYS (Kadima, frisbee, football)
  • BUG SPRAY
  • WATER BOTTLES

Resources:

Patrols need to plan meals that include Saturday breakfast, Saturday Dinner and Sunday Breakfast. Patrols should also plan a brown bag Saturday Lunch as it is unlikely you will return to camp for lunch on Saturday. Plan an easy no-cook breakfast for Sunday morning.

Scout cost for camping and ropes course is $5 (2.50/nt). Patrol grub fee is separate.
Adult camping cost is $15 ($7.50/nt). Adult grub fee is TBD.
