Troop 787 First Year Program 2020 Kickout

The Troop 787 First Year Program will officially start on Tuesday, March 3.

We are going to have a fast start for the scouts with a campout planned for the weekend of March 13-15 at Long Pointe Park near Sebastian Inlet in Brevard County. We would like for as many of the First Year scouts to attend as possible, even if they have not had their cross over and officially joined the troop. This post has some information about the March campout, and you should read information about camping with Troop 787 in general. The troop policy is that we like scouts to camp with us at lease twice before attending a summer camp. We will have campouts in March, April, and May.

If your scout will attend the March campout,

  1. email [email protected] and let me know so I can start planning.
  2. Complete parts A&B of the BSA medical form. This does not require a doctor’s visit. Download it at Troop 787 Resource page.
  3. If you will be joining the campout as an adult, complete Youth Protection Training and complete a medical form. Youth Protection training is available online at https://my.scouting.org/. Download the medical form at Troop 787 Resource page
  4. Registration forms will be available at the troop meetings. For now, put FYE as the patrol on registration forms.

This campout will be a little different than most in terms of logistics because we will be on an island connected to the mainland by a foot bridge. The program patrol is still working on the specifics of how we will do our cooking. We will have a program for the FYE’s that will deviate some from the troop program. The troop will be using canoes and paddling to different locations in a scavenger hunt of scout skills. FYE’s will start with some skills practice and near shore canoeing. We will base canoe use on skill level. Otherwise, we will be working on some of the same skills as the rest of the troop.

This is the typical first campout menu for FYE’s.
