SUMMARY:FYE Patrol Hike to Black Bear Wilderness
DESCRIPTION:This is our first practice hike to prepare for Thunder.  Focus
  is hiking skills\, safety\, endurance\, and trail cooking. We are going t
 o do between 5-7 miles in the Black Bear Wilderness on the west side of Sa
 nford.\nArrive to church by 7:45am\, depart 8:00am - estimated return 2:00
 pm\nASMs - Gatza\, Greenly\, Garrison\, Perez\nPermission Slips are Attach
 ed\nUpon arrival\, we will do a gear check. If you are not properly outfit
 ted\, you might not be allowed to participate in the hike. You need the fo
 llowing\n\n\n 	\nBackpack or day pack with no more than 20 pounds in them 
 (school bag is fine\, no string bags\, don’t bring your full overnight b
 ackpacking pack). We need to get used to hiking while carrying gear. You c
 an pack some camp gear or extra water to fill the bag.\n\n 	\nGood shoes a
 nd socks. Ideally shoes made for hiking or trekking\, but at minimum sturd
 y athletic shoes with good soles and strong support.\n\n 	\nFull water bot
 tle (2 bottles is better)\,\n\n 	\nA personal trail snack\,\n\n 	\nPlate/b
 owl from mess kit and spoon/fork\n\n 	\n10 scout essentials. https://scout

 l cooking and practice using a lightweight stove to heat water and re-hydr
 ate a meal. Scouts will need at least the plate/bowl part of their mess ki
 t and a spoon/fork/spork. This will give us the opportunity to demonstrate
  washing on the trail.\nWe will have a couple backpacking stoves. If you h
 ave one\, bring it. If you do not\, don’t get one.\n
